Open Government

So important is open government to the successful administration of a democracy, with specific laws in the State of Wisconsin requiring it, that the Local Government Center provides an entire annual WisLine series on the topic, as well as talks at our Towns and Counties workshops on specific topics. It is a first order of business for a new official to learn the requirements for open government, to avoid committing unintentional breaches of law or ethics or making a local government liable for adverse consequences.

This section of the Local Government Center web site contains information on the following topics:

Open Meetings
Open Records
Effective Meetings
Parliamentary Procedure
Ethics and Conflicts of Interest
Media Relations

This section still under construction.
