Jenny Erickson Takes Service to Statewide Audience

Jenny Erickson is providing part-time support to Center operations while continuing her role as the CNRED educator and co-department head in the Sauk County UWExtension Office. She served as the coordinator/moderator of the “Developing Your Annual Budget WisLine” offered on July 23 and she’s also coordinating the “Current Issues Affecting Local Government Officials” WisLine series starting in the fall. She’s providing leadership on the Center’s efforts to offer an inservice training to county-based UW-Extension educators interested in building their capacity to deliver local government education and examining ways to support various Women in Government initiatives.

2014 Fall Town and Village Workshops

Finance and budget issues, including levy limits and DOR Form C guidance, are part of one concurrent session of the 2014 Fall Town and Village Workshops. The other concurrent session includes town road issues, parliamentary procedure, and public engagement. These popular workshops return to nine locations around Wisconsin September 9 through 25, 2014, presented to town and village officials by the Wisconsin Towns Association, UW Transportation Information Center, Wisconsin Department of Revenue and Local Government Center.

The locations will be Wabeno, Rhinelander, Cable, Eau Claire, Stevens Point, Green Bay, Ripon, Tomah, and Mineral Point. For registration and more details visit the Local Government Center website at

Current Issues Affecting Local Government Officials Fall/Winter WisLine Series

The Local Government Center is offering the following series of WisLine teleconferences focused on current issues impacting local government:

  • October 6: Local Control of Telecommunication Towers and Facilities: Powers, Procedures and Limitations
  • November 3: Phosphorus Discharge Regulation
  • December 1: At Our Doorstep: Local Government’s Demographics Challenge and Implications for Counties and Communities
  • January 5: Changes in Tax Incremental Financing
  • February 2: Wisconsin Legislative Preview

Each sixty-minute teleconference will be held on the first Monday of each month starting at 10 am. Registration will open September 5. County Officials Workshops 2014

Last spring the 2014 County Officials Workshops were completed. Attendance was 258 for the seven all-day sessions held in Stevens Point, Eau Claire, Richland Center, Green Bay, Rhinelander, Cable, and DeForest.

Here’s what participants said about the programs for new and continuing county officials on the topics relating to their roles and responsibilities:
